I Offer This Website To Mariah Carey And Her Fans

If you listen to some of the biggest hits of 2009, they'll seem familiar. That's because they came from albums released in 2008. That Beyonce smash? From "I Am... Sasha Fierce," released last year. "Poker Face"? It was on Lady Gaga's 2008 debut. It's the same with the Kings of Leon and Taylor Swift.

Though last year's releases dominated, great music was still put out in 2009 that helped define the year sonically. The best of the best, starting at the top:
1. "The Here and the Now," Sam and Ruby
2. "The Fall," Norah Jones
3. "The E.N.D.," Black Eyed Peas

4. "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," Mariah Carey: OK, so it's hard to take Carey seriously — she of stiletto heels, spandex dresses and girlie, butterfly motifs — but her music is always on point. On this CD, she is poignant, romantic and hilarious — sometimes, all in one song.

5. "The Blueprint 3," Jay-Z
6. "Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future," The Bird and the Bee
7. "BLACKsummers'night," Maxwell
8. "Songs From Around the World," Playing for Change
9. "Zee Avi," Zee Avi
10. "11:11," Rodrigo y Gabriela

Megastar Mariah Carey is teaming up with Westlife again for an exclusive single. She told me the secret after I was the only journalist to be given an XS All Areas pass when the world's biggest selling female singer arrived in town this week.

In our eXSclusive chat she revealed she can't wait to work with Kian, Nicky, Mark and Shane again. Mariah said: "They're very exciting artists and I love them."

She last worked with the lads in 2000, and Against All Odds topped the charts. But this time the record will only be released in Britain. "I want it to be the next single here and different to the rest of the world," she said. "I can't wait to do it."

Mariah, 39, was in London to switch on the Christmas lights at the Westfield Shopping Centre. She invited me backstage for a chat, and I can tell you the 20 white kittens and 100 white doves that she'd been rumoured to have demanded were nowhere to be seen.

In fact, the diva's area was quite modest - she even had to use a portaloo while she signed autographs for hours (though it was a luxury one with pink walls and a heater).

"This diva tag is never going to go away but it doesn't bother me anymore," Mariah said. And setting the record straight she added: "I didn't ask for anything."

Mariah performs new single I Want To Know What Love Is on tonight's X Factor from new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

Once again among the best R&B and pop music representatives

What else does an artist need music for if not for self-expression? We learn from the songs of the most varied genres’ performers what they think, feel, what they dream of, what they regret about, what they strive for and what they are pleased to remember. Of course sometimes a musician’s personality is not connected to one’s creations that directly but the absolute majority of songwriters does have at least one autobiographic song. This is especially true with women – their creative work often has a personal character, and Mariah Carey is not an exception in this respect. Today it is no more up-to-date remembering that in the past there were first ups, then downs in her creative work – the pop-divas two last albums have demonstrated well that Mariah is once again among the best R&B and pop music representatives. Thus her twelfth album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel does not only continue the series of Mariah Carey’s successful works but also proves to the most personal in her discography – here you will find quite a number of stories from the singer’s past and learn about the events that have influenced on her life.

Each of the tracks on Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel touches upon a certain theme

Most of the songs on Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel are written by Mariah herself, Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart and Terius ‘The-Dream’ Nash, and all of them have resulted different, as Carey has planned. Each of the tracks touches upon a certain theme, among which there are, naturally, relationships, the theme of a powerful woman, a bit of humor and a bit of introspection. Stylistically it is a quality collection in the best of R&B traditions with a good portion of lyrical ballads. The albums opens with a romantic composition Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue), on which Mariah’s vocals sounds wonderfully intimate and sensual, while the first single Obsessed is a traditional club hit. The audience has already appreciated it as it deserves – it has got on the top 10 of Billboard Hot 100, which coasts a lot – Mariah’s songs have not been that success since 1998’s My All. The minor-key composition H.A.T.E.U. has proved one of the most beautiful on the album, whereas the sensual number Ribbon can boasr a contagious sample. A more rhythmic track Standing O and melodious It's A Wrap have turned out to be great grounds for demonstration of Carey’s still impressive vocals. Two compositions on the album consist of two parts – the stylish Up Out My Face and the sensual The Impossible, and the record’s main theme is reflected on one of the highlights Angels Cry with a memorable tune and the lyrics which are very personal for Mariah. Another shining number is the cover of Foreigner’s song I Want To Know What Love Is, it is the second single and a splendid soulful ballad.

 Joyful in spite of anything

Listening to Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel and looking at its cover on which Mariah is presented three times at once one can realize: despite that the things have not been always perfect in her life, this woman knows that it is better to live happily than to be depressed. Carey’s three different images are meant to reflect her different moods, but there is hardly one among them that associates with negative emotions – and this is probably the best way to be. Even if we hear different stories on Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, among which there are some sad and thoughtful moments the singer still remains joyful not forgetting about being feminine and sensual – these qualities prevail throughout the entire new record. It goes without saying that she still has a perfect control over her voice, expressing the necessary emotions on all the tracks, and due to the great production successful arrangements only underline the vocals’ good points. Judging by all, we will not have to wait long till the splendid diva’s next creation and it will certainly prove the same many-faceted, rich and stylish as Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, pretending to the year’s best R&B album and the best in Mariah Carey’s discography.

Madonna, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Robbie Williams are among the host of big names reportedly planning to record a charity disc of Michael Jackson's greatest hits.

Other world-famous acts taking part include Whitney Houston, Usher and Brit schoolboy sensation Shaheen Jafargholi, with legends Stevie Wonder, 59, Diana Ross, 65, and Lionel Richie, 60, also expected to lay down tracks.

The idea came about after a succession of stars sang cover versions of the singer's hits at his memorial service. Producers are asking the stars to perform their favourite Jacko songs.

Mariah, 39, will sing I'll Be There and Britain's Got Talent star Shaheen, 12, who wowed fans at the Los Angeles memorial with his version of Who's Loving You, will be asked to record that track and Jacko's 1970s smash Ben. Madonna, 50, could be tempted by Beat It or Billie Jean, while other songs expected to be covered include Rock With You, She's Out Of My Life and Bad. And Robbie, 35, is being lined up to sing Man In The Mirror amid reports his former Take That bandmates could cover ABC, Working Day And Night or Don't Stop Til You Get Enough.

A live tribute concert is also being planned at O2 Arena, involving the singer's family and other guests, on what would have been his 51st birthday on August 29.

"'Obsessed' is almost, like, just jokes," says Mariah Carey of her video. The singer talked exclusively to BET.com after appearing on BET's 106 & Park to debut the song's remix version featuring Gucci Mane. The leadoff single to her upcoming album, "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel," has caused a bit of a laugh in the industry because of Mariah's portrayal of an obsessed fan, who happens to favor Eminem.

On his most recent album, Eminem made a few derogatory comments about Mariah, which led to a brief back and forth between Eminem and the Cannons. The video almost seems like Mariah's joking response to him. Though Carey claimed on 106 that the "stalker" isn't anyone in particular, the video (which happens to reenact a scene from an old Eminem music video) tells another story.

"I worked with Brett Ratner [on the video] who is a comedian. We talked about a few comedienne's playing the part of the stalker, but at the end of the day, actually, I think it was Nick who said why don't you just play the stalker," she said. When asked what that was like, she replied with a giggle, "So, so bizarre."

But Eminem disses (or not) aside, Mariah says her album, due out in September, is close to being finished. For producers, she worked with Tricky and The-Dream, Timbaland and Jermaine Dupri. "I love J.D. 'Always Be My Baby' was the first song we did and it was a number one record. I can't express how much I care about him," she shared. The album, according to Mimi, has something for everybody, but is about women's empowerment. "It's about overcoming a lot of things," Mariah begins. "Each song tells its own story. It may have come from my own personal experience, or from a friend of mine that may have told me their story."

In the interview, Mariah opened up. She shared her personal thoughts about her relationship with Michael Jackson and her performance at his memorial service. She also talked candidly about her marriage to Nick Cannon, and even discussed how different it is from her last.

In this exclusive interview clip from MTV News, Mariah talks about the producers she's worked with on her new album, Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel.

MTV: With regards on who you worked with on the album, producers and collabos, who did you work with on this album? We know The-Dream did "Obsessed" with you as well. Who else?

Mariah: I worked a lot with Tricky and Dream. I worked with JD again. I always love working with Jermaine. Everytime it's just like it reminds me of the first time we worked together which was "Always Be My Baby." It's just like you can't... once you do a song like that and you have it forever it's like you want to just continue to try to re-create that magic. And so that's what we do. But I worked with Timbaland for the first time...

MTV: How was that?

Mariah: That was really... I mean, I'm a fan of Timbaland's so I enjoyed it. It hasn't been mixed yet but I think it's really cool. And I worked with Big Jim Wright who worked with Sounds of Blackness a lot. So there's live feeling songs on the album. A lot of my fans are like, since I've been twittering a lot, "We want some live sounding stuff," "We want some stuff like this, we want stuff like that," and so you have to find that middle ground.

When Mariah Carey's latest single "Obsessed" hit the airwaves, speculation swirled that the song is directed at Eminem as a response to his track "Bagpipes From Baghdad." Fuel was added to that rumor's fire after stills from the video were released – photos that seem to suggest that Carey dressed as Eminem for the clip.

But the video's director, Brett Ratner, insists that as far as he knows, the song – off Carey's latest album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, out next month – isn't about Eminem.

"It's not about Eminem – we weren't like, 'Let's find an Eminem look-alike,'" he told MTV News about the stalker character in the video, which he originally wanted to be played by Ellen DeGeneres. "We weren't talking to any Eminem [look-alikes]. I guess it's a good rumor, but I don't think it's true. I don't really know. I never asked her, but then when I recommended Ellen, that's where she got the idea."

Ratner had heard the Eminem rumors, but insisted that Carey never told him the song was penned about the MC. The look Mariah rocks in the video was devised simply as a way to hide Mariah's lady assets.

"Mariah never talked to me about that," he explained. "You know, Mariah ... she's like the most feminine girl you can imagine, so the more I covered up the less work I had to do on the transitions of changing back and forth. I kind of told the wardrobe guy, 'Let's bulk her up with layers and stuff' – first of all, to hide her breasts, because they're prominent, and to kind of make her more boyish. A b-boy made sense."

Ratner, who worked with Mariah on many of her videos including last year's "Touch My Body," explained that the video was more inspired by two films rather than Eminem: his love for the classic Martin Scorsese flick "The King of Comedy" and Carey's love for the Lindsay Lohan flick "Mean Girls."

"It was inspired by a movie that I love called 'King of Comedy,' when Sandra Bernhard was stalking Jerry Lewis – and that's why I wanted to move it to New York," he said, adding, "Mariah loves 'Mean Girls.' I think it's funny [when the stalker gets hit with the bus like in the film] ..."

The director explained that so many of their collaborations show the funny side of Mariah Carey because they share a special bond and are "like kids – we love playing and role playing. We love telling stories and making movies."

"She's really like a kid. All her nuances ... she's like a big kid. That's what I think we're trying to capture. It doesn't have to be all serious and sexy and everyone thinks she's a big diva," he said. "She's very comfortable with me. And she's so smart. Like Madonna, she knows where her light is ... she'll know if she's out of focus."
